Sticking to the composer's intention does make exploring a work more exciting. After all, tempo markings and dynamics arent some arbitrary thing. Knowing this allows us to enter the minds of those great masters, to hear what the heared in their heads.
I think i've become an avid score collector too. Nowadays theres so just so many things you hear in recordings that werent actually in the score.
